 ABOUT THE CLUB

The MG Car Club of Western Australia Inc. was founded in 1963 as a not-for-profit organisation administered by a committee of volunteer enthusiasts.  The Club is affiliated with the MG Car Club of UK, which was founded in 1930 and is based in Abingdon. There are MG Car Club Centres in every Australian State and the ACT, and each year a National Meeting is hosted by one of these MGCC Centres over Easter.

The aim of the MG Car Club of WA is to maintain the MG marque and create a forum for owners of all types of MG's to discuss technical and common interest matters relating to the vehicles, as well as to participate in social outings and competition events. The Club has about 200 members.

Each year the committee and other members organise a series of social and competition runs, barbecues, nog'n’natters, dinners, novelty events, driving skills, speed & performance events, vehicle condition inspections, Show’n’Shine/Concours d'Elegance, navigation trials and the premier event on the MG calendar "The Safety Fast Run". These events are generally well attended and have proven to be very enjoyable.Read More

 EVENT HISTORY

The Safety Fast Run originated in 1993 when Colin Cleaver who was the President of the MG Car Club of WA identified a need for a touring event which would attract all owners of MGs, including those who were members of other clubs and members of the general public. The intention was to bring all MG owners together for a weekend of informal scenic driving and social fun.

An organising committee was formed and over the years this has included members of the two other MG clubs in WA, the MG Owners Club and the MG TC Owners Club, thus ensuring the interests of other MG owners were catered for and that the organisational load was shared around.

The MG Car Club chairs the organising committee and is responsible for maintaining the financial accounts and obtaining the necessary CAMS approvals and insurance.

The event is self-funding and any surplus is held in trust for following years to cover any future shortfall.

The contribution of all MG club members in helping to organise the event is appreciated, and it is intended that the event will continue for many years to come, providing a fun weekend away for all MG owners and their spouses, partners and friends, at an affordable price.
